Liberal Democrats call Time on Street Drinkers in Golders Green

Childs Hill Liberal democrats will be urging Barnet Council to back calls to make Golders Green Town Centre an Alcohol Free Zone. Local Ward Councillor and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Jack Cohen has put down a motion at tonight’s full Council Meeting.( see text below.).

Councillor Cohen says he and his Ward Colleagues Cllrs Susette Palmer and Monroe Palmer constantly receive complaints from residents and shopkeepers about street alcohol drinkers. Cllr Cohen points out “unfortunately there has been a steady increase in the numbers of men under the influence of alcohol and who consume alcohol on the streets of the shopping centre. There is no doubt that this is having a negative impact on the vitality of the Town Centre”

Childs Hill Liberal Democrats successfully campaigned for an Alcohol Free Zone in Cricklewood. This is now up and running. Cllr Cohen wants the same laws to apply in Golders Green “Residents and Shopkeepers in Cricklewood warmly welcomed the zone. The Conservatives originally opposed the Cricklewood Ban but then came to their senses . I hope the Conservatives will support out motion this time around.
