ABOLISH HOLES IN THE ROAD “Bring Back Neighbourhood Wardens”, says Cllr Susette Palmer in her response to the Budget Debate.
“I am appalled at the state of the roads following the January snow. There are still crevasses and large potholes all over Childs Hill and there seems to be no system in place to locate and fill them. I have, at last, managed to get the Hodford/Rodborough roundabout repaired but the contractors have done a shoddy job and completely ignored one small pothole. I have given a list to the Barnet Officers of holes I have come across in the ward but the staff are badly overstretched by staff cuts and there appears to be no method in place to find, list, and repair these holes in an orderly manner.
I am sure some of you remember with affection Francis Mungai and our past Neighbourhood Wardens whose job it was to report street and other issues and make sure the repairs were carried out to a satisfactory standard. The Tories abolished them and are relying on residents to do their work by reporting problems. This is inefficient and appears unworkable.”
The Liberal Democrat Budget for 2010 restores Neighbourhood Wardens as a valuable and much needed resource to keep our Borough looking good and the roads and pavements safe.
